As common basic form one postulates * līÞrā; on the phonetics Schulze KZ 33, 223f. (= Kl. Schr. 276f.), Schwyzer 206, Pariente Emer. 20, 389ff. The alternative short ι in λίτρα, which would be Doric after Hdn. Gr. 2, 546, 12, is unexplained.
